A better handoff in three lines

When someone takes over a task, give them enough to start from where you left off.

Pick one place they already check, like a shared note, a clipboard, or a single message thread. When you hand off a task, write these three lines in the same order every time.

  1. Where it stands. What’s finished, and what’s still open?
  2. What happens next. What action should the next person take, and by when?
  3. What they’ll need. Where’s the relevant item or information, and what should they do if they hit a snag?

Try it on one task this week

Ask the person taking over which line helped them and what they still had to ask you. Put the answer in the handoff next time.
